Why Play for Team Pittsburgh?

Team Pittsburgh is stable.  Team Pittsburgh has been, since inception, the girls portion of the Pittsburgh Aviators.  We have a five year history of stability.  We do not change our name or rostering organization from year to year as we wear out our welcome from association to association.

Team Pittsburgh enjoys the ability to purchase virtually unlimited ice at Airport Ice Arena.  The arena is centrally located on the Parkway West.  We welcome everyone to contact the rink to confirm the availability of ice to our players and teams.  We encourage everyone to do the same whereever they are considering playing.

Team Pittsburgh was the first team from the State of Pennsylvania, boys or girls, to ever win a USA Hockey National Championship (and the second from the state to be authorized by USA Hockey to consider themselves national champions - The Valley Forge(Pa.) U12 boys having won the USHL title in 1999) .  This result was accomplished through tremendous coaching and dedicated, hard working players.

Team Pittsburgh has simply unparalled facilities for training both on and off ice in Pittsburgh.  We have regularly scheduled on ice clinics at Airport Ice Arena devoted to powerskating and individual skill development.  Team Pittsburgh was a collaborative partner with Airport Ice Arena and the Pittsburgh Aviators in the creation of the Pittsburgh Hockey Academy for on ice development and an in-arena training facility at Airport Ice Arena.  The rink has dedicated an 11,000 foot space in the second floor area previously housing the old skate park for the development of a one of a kind training facility in Pittsburgh.  The first phase of this project was the recent unveiling of a turf speed training track measuring 160 ft x 16 ft.  By the end of the summer the training facility will be completed and will allow our players access to off-ice hockey specific training unparalled in Pittsburgh.

Team Pittsburgh will this summer run a four day training camp at Airport Ice Arena.  The program will be directed by Greg Carter whose girls teams have won six national championships.  This camp will be exclusively available to all Team Pittsburgh players.

Any questions regarding a specific team should be directed to that team's coach.  Any questions regarding the program in general should be directed to Bob Mackey at 412-370-9110 or bobmackey1@att.blackberry.net.
