Supplimental Tryouts

Supplimental Tryouts time has been changed

All supplimental tryouts for Mites, Squirts, PeeWees, and Bantams will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on May 28th at the Airport Ice Arena. If you have not tried out for a position with this aviators this is your chance. Only players that did not complete the previous tryouts should attend.

Must be Tips/Team certified to work.

Dress code: Khaki pants (no shorts), no open toe shoes. Aramark will provide a black jersey shirt and a hat to wear.

We need at least 15 people in order for us to get our own booth.

Earnings are based on a percentage of booth sales and will be credited to your Aviator account. Please reply back to me if you would like to work. I will take the first 15 people along with alternates.

POST GAZETTE PAVILION FUNDRAISER

PITTSBURGH AVIATORS POST GAZETTE PAVILION FUNDRAISER

The Pittsburgh Aviators will again be participating in the Post Gazette Pavilion fundraiser for the 2008 concert season. This is a fun and profitable fundraiser. The concerts begin in May and go through September. You must be TIPS certified to work a concert. This season our organization will be assigned to work alcohol stands for the busier concerts. The number of alcohol stands that will be assigned will vary concert to concert, and the number of volunteers that will be needed will also vary. As I receive concert information from Post Gazette Pavilion, I will update the website and send out an email with the information.

For the first three concerts we have been assigned six alcohol stands. We will need 10 volunteers for each concert. The shows are listed below:

Friday, May 30th Dave Matthews   Report time 4:30
Saturday, May 31st Dave Matthews   Report time 4:30
Tuesday, June 10th Tom Petty   Report time 5:00

We will take the first ten requests (based on date/time of email) and will accept only one family member per concert unless the spots are not filled. To volunteer for a concert, send an email to Sharon Brooks at sbrooks123@comcast.net and specify which concert/concerts you would like to work (generic requests will NOT be accepted). If there is more than one family member who would like to work a specific concert, you can list that member in the email. If volunteers are still needed one week after the concert request was available; one additional family member will be added (priority given to earliest date/time of response).

Congratulations Team Pittsburgh girls

Congratulations to the following Team Pittsburgh girls who were selected for their respective USA Hockey National Development Camp in Rochester this summer:

Select 14 Girls (1994) -- Morgan Blank, Abby Kibler from Mid Am District and Taylor Stokes from SEast District.

Select 15 Girls (1993) -- Bailey Stankus, Brooke Webber and Katelyn Pippy (G)

Select 17 Girls (1991) -- Olivia Chrash (G)

In each of the 93 and 94 age groups there were only 4 girls selected total. In each age group there could only be one goalie selected, and we had 2 goalies selected overall that will represent the MidAm District.

Team Pittsburgh had a GREAT showing. We also had a long list of girls selected to the Mid Am In-district camp! Congratulations Girls!!

2008-2009 tryout dates announced

Tryouts for the 2008-2009 season will be held beginning March 31, 2008 and will continue through April for all levels at the AA, A and B levels.

Team Pittsburgh U12s finish second at USA Hockey National Championships

The Team Pittsburgh Under-12 girls' hockey team finished second in the nation at the USA Hockey National Championships April 3-6 at Ice Line in West Chester, PA. And it took eight overtimes for perennial favorite Assabet Valley, MA, to oust Team Pittsburgh, 2-1, in the championship game.

Assabet scored their second goal - and championship clincher - at 7:41 of the eighth overtime period.

Team Pittsburgh Head Coach Raffi Wolf had the girls believing that they could win saying, "We set a goal to win nationals, and these girls worked hard all season to get here to the finals against the top-rated program in the country. They gave everything they had to win it. We're very proud of their effort."

During regulation, Assabet tallied the first goal at 7:36 of the 2nd period.

That lead held until deep in the third period when, with 1:08 on the clock, and a face-off in the Assabet end of the ice, Team Pittsburgh pulled goalie Taylor Cestra. Stephanie Lemieux scored with 0:51 left to play, assisted by Christina Zalewski and Morgan McKim to send the game to overtime.

In the eight overtime periods, there were many scoring opportunities on both ends of the ice. Cestra was particularly brilliant, stopping 45 of the 47 shots she faced.

To get to the finals, Team Pittsburgh went 3-0 in the round-robin, defeating the Anaheim Lady Ducks (7-1), Detroit Little Caesars (2-0) and Princeton Tiger Lilies (3-1). They continued their winning ways in the quarters, defeating Team Florida (4-2) and bested the Chicago Mission (3-2) in the semifinals, setting up the championship game against Assabet, who also went 5-0 on their way to the finals.

The Team Pittsburgh Under-12 girls team finished the season with a record of 59-8-3.

In addition to the U12 girls, the Team Pittsburgh under-16 girls also won the Mid American District and played at the USA Hockey National Championships, narrowly missing a chance to advance to the quarter finals after going 1-2 in round-robin play.

Working with Aramark a great fundraiser: TIPS Training offered in April

Aramark offers families the ability to earn money toward ice fees by working concerts, Pitt football games and Steelers football games. All of the money that you earn from these events goes directly toward your ice fees. The organization does not profit from your hard work at these events.

The Pittsburgh Aviators will again be participating in the Post Gazette Pavilion fundraiser for the 2008 concert season. This is a fun and profitable fundraiser. The concerts begin in May and go through September. The Pitt and Steelers games start in August and go through December.

To participate in this fundraiser, you will need to have an up-to-date TIPS/TEAM Certification. This is required in order to serve alcohol at the event. There are two dates scheduled for certification:

Wednesday. April 16, 6:30 p.m. - RMU Island Sports Center
Wednesday, April 30, 6:30 p.m. - RMU Island Sports Center
Saturday, May 3rd and 10th 12:00 Post Gazette Pavilion

Space is limited so you will need to contact Pittsburgh Aviators Event Coordinator Sharon Brooks ASAP if you would like to attend so she can register you for the training. If you currently are TIPS certified, that certification is valid for three years.

Team Pittsburgh U14s take largest girls tournament in the world

Congratulations to the Team Pittsburgh U14 team, which finished the season strong by winning the
Brampton Canadettes' World's Largest girls' tournament with a 5-1 record.

They started the weekend off with two wins Friday over Hamilton and Oshawa. Their only setback on the weekend was a loss vs Oakville to finish the round-robin. But they ended as the second-place seed in their bracket, and then finished off the Wisconsin Jr. Badgers in the quarterfinals.

Sunday morning was a re-match against Oakville, and Ashley Vesci scored the winning goal with 6 seconds left to play.

The championship turned out to be an All-American final against the Michigan Capitals, who Team Pittsburgh came up short against in MWEHL play back in October. The outcome of this game would be different, although it took awhile.

The U14s battled hard and ended regulation deadlocked at 1-1. When overtime could not product a winner, it was time for a shootout. It took 11 shooters on each side before a victor would prevail. Sarah Sheils and Bailey Stankus (winning goal) scored in the shoot-out, and Caroline Barth stopped 10 of
11 in the effort.

Congratulations to Coach Stephen Walkom for bringing home the banner two years in a row (last year's U12 team also was also victorious at Brampton).
